When we started this journey nearly 2 years ago, our goal for Alpha Pak was not only to make innovative and trustworthy dog gear. We wanted to make gear that gives back to the planet.
Dogs love being outside, and so do we, which is why we chose to prioritize sustainable practices when crafting our products. As outdoorsy dog lovers ourselves, it is our responsibility to be conscious of how our dog gear impacts planet Earth.
The textile industry is one of the biggest contributors to waste and plastic usage. Fabric is made mostly from polyester, which accounts for approximately 60 percent of the world’s production of a simple plastic called PET.
This type of plastic is also used to make many common items, such as plastic water bottles and packaging. It requires a lot of energy to produce and quickly ends up in our landfills. However, PET is also one of the easiest materials to recycle.
Many major textile brands, such as Adidas, Target, and IKEA, have taken a stand to decrease plastic use. These companies, and many others, are committed to reducing or eliminating the use of new fabric and replacing it with recycled fabric by the year 2025.
Our commitment is to make our gear with 100% recycled plastic by the end of 2020. We care about our dogs and our planet, so we are determined to make a positive impact with sustainable Alpha Pak gear.
